Somego

1986 Bayliner Contessa 2850 (28') Designer Edition Sunbridge

We found Somego advertised on Craigslist (www.craigslist.org), just like Lowego. In fact most of our boating purchases and sales have been through craigslist. She was located up in John Wayne Marina in Sequim. That is a ferry ride and a long drive for us but we had to see her. Well, she needed a bit of work (ended up a lot more than we realized, but she's worth it!) but it was just what we were looking for at a price we couldn't turn down. It took 3 trips to Sequim to get her running well enough to limp home. What should normally have been a 3 hour trip took 7 hours over 2 days, in 25 knot winds. We'll never forget that trip.

That was the end of September 2006. We worked on Somego all winter, getting in an occasional short trip. Al has replaced nearly every part on the engine, the holding tank and the hot water tank, plus too many more things to list. I recovered the v-berth cushions, made new curtains, and refinished the teak on the deck rails. We have replaced all the interior lights and found a great buy on a brand new electric/alchohol stove (on craigslist). We've had her hauled out twice, once for new bottom paint and an outdrive repair, and then again when the swim step collapsed. We were backing into some serious waves, trying to get the best photos as official photographers of the NYCE (Navy Yacht Club Everett) Opening Day Sailboat Races. We didn't know until Venture, the race officials boat, radioed us to check our swim step. The next week we had her hauled out for the repair which, thank goodness, was covered by insurance.

It is now mid-July 2007 and we just returned from 5 days in the San Juans. She performed very well and we are looking forward to our next big trip to Maple Bay in Canada in August with the Bellevue Power Squadron. We think Somego is just about perfect and hope she'll take us on many more trips for the years to come.
